“Our favourite!” The 2 hour Storms River Kayak & Lilo Adventure is our most popular adventure activity in Tsitsikamma National Park! If you are keen to explore deeper into the Storms River Gorge in Tsitsikamma, and experience the long, deep, quiet pools, then the Kayak and Lilo trip is for you!

We paddle from the Harbour next to the small beach across the ocean, then under the Suspension Bridge and up the beautiful Storms River Mouth. Please note that if the sea is rough, you have to hike to the Suspension Bridge (along a boardwalked trail), where we then hike along the river from the suspension bridge up to the jetty to where you then get on onto your kayaks. This 80m hike is over rocks and difficult terrain.

PADDLE UP THE STORMS RIVER MOUTH

This is where the true Kayaking adventure begins – paddling the Storms River, the pinnacle of Tsitsikamma National Park. After waving to all the tourists photographing you from the Suspension Bridge, we continue the kayak trip up the Stormsrivier. We paddle right into the bats cave and spend time gazing up at the magnificent and spectacular cliffs all around us, all from the comfort of our double sit-on-top kayaks.

LILO DEEPER UP THE STORMS RIVER GORGE

At the low-water point (where the 1 hour kayak trip turns around) we disembark our kayaks and we jump on our unique Lilo’s. (a Lilo is an inflatable mattress that we’ve had specially made for this trip). From here we walk and float over a short section of rocks and simply wade deeper up the river on the Lilo’s. What a stunning view it is, laying on a Lilo at water level, and gazing up to cliffs that touch the sky! At reaching a certain point, we simply turn our Lilo’s around and float back down river to our Kayaks!

CLIFF JUMPING

For the young, brave and adventurous (and the young, brave and adventurous at heart!) we take the opportunity up Storms River to leap off overhangs in the cliff walls into deep pools in the gorge. The cliff jumping adds a good dose of adrenaline for your trip back, as well as some good laughs, friendly encouragement and one-of-a-kind photo opportunities to brag to all your buddies when you get home. Cliff Jumping is not compulsory – you can simply enjoy the spectacle as you leisurely float in the long pools below. We’ve had kids as young as 6 and grandparents (as old as grandparents!) take the leap and enjoy the Lilo-ing, so we can truly say that this activity can be enjoyed by the whole family!

The Lilo trip is our most popular and most recommended trip by local and international tourists, so be sure not to miss out on this unique adventure!

Customer Reviews

Fantastic experience and would do it again in a heartbeat. Our guides Brighton and Norman were really friendly and helpful as well. Definitely suggest signing up for this if you are in the area - worth it! - Jaryd

The experience was amazing and truly unique. It is something that we could not keep from sharing with our friends and family, wanting people to experiencing for themselves. The activities are a bit under-advertised and can be missed with people not frequenting the area. We are from Cape town and was aware of the Zip-line, the bungie jumping and beach locations but only realise the canoeing when we were in the area. What we also saw is that the locals might not be able to afford multiple activities like we did due to the costing(not saying that the costing was to unreasonable). A local and a tourist rate might make the activities more attainable to less fortunate South Africans. - Brendin

Hi. Ek is baie happy met die mense. Die 1 ou wat agter my gesit het was baie wonderlik en goed en baie vriendlik. - Riana

We absolutely loved the tour - the guides Lisa and Julio were amazing. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the area. If I have a suggestion, it would be to make the kloofing area more accessible - I really wanted to do it but was more afraid of cracking my skull on the way up than doing the actual jump. Sadly, I did not risk it :( - Natasha

Had funtastic time. Romeo and Clinton were awesome guides. They ensured that we understood safety briefing. They also everyone made everyone at ease during the kayaking. This is definately must do again with friends. Cliff diving was awesome. - Patrick
